British Blues and Ringing Ears

There was an excellent documentary on BBC 3 the other night about the rise of Blues music in South London in the 60s. It got my foot tapping on numerous occassions, and as a result I found myself digging out a few of my favourite tracks from Irish and British blues bands in the 60s and 70s.

My ears have consequently been ringing from the abundance of distorted guitars and rambling drum solos… among the culprits:

Cream – Train Time
Taste – Sinner Boy
Led Zeppelin – How Many More Times
Rolling Stones – Factory Girl
Rory Gallagher – Cradle Rock
Fleetwood Mac – Peter Green stuff… of course!

This is just a selection of stuff that had a huge impact on my own interest in music and guitar at an early age… It is great to revisit a lot of it as it had been a few months and in some cases years, since I had last given them a good listen.

Thankfully though in the meantime I have been listening to a lot more of the blues roots; Son House, Ledbetter, Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf, Elmore James etc… you will have no doubt heard a bit from these artists in the last few podcasts.. and will again soon I am certain!

So the question of what music to post today is not easily answered… So much to choose from … perhaps something old and something new…
